Story of Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly

Emily goes to Da-Vinci elementary school. She is in fourth grade. Her teacher's name is Ms. Honey. One day, Emily walked in the class. She saw the schedule on the board. After snack, they had science! Science was Emily's favorite subject. When it was snack time, Emily couldn’t wait for it to be over. When it was over, everyone was excited. Science was always fun.

"Ok class, its science time!" Ms. Honey called. Ms. Honey explained that this week, they were going to study about the bones in the human body. "To help you, I have something here", Ms. Honey said while she went to the supply room. When she came out, she carried an old, very wobbly skeleton and placed it behind her desk.

Emily was shocked (and a bit scared) at the wobbliness of the skeleton. After taking a close look at it, she realized it was not real. It had metal wires to help it stand. Its joints were made of metal too, like door hinges.

Ms. Honey then explained that she could not let them handle it. "It is about 30 years old or so. It is starting to fall apart. If you try to handle it or something, it might break." Emily realized that it was true. The lower jaw, a hand, a foot and a couple of other bones were indeed missing. It still looked quite spooky.

Billy, a boy sitting at the far end, raised his hand. "Yes, Billy, do you have a question?" Ms. Honey asked. "Is it real?" asked Billy. A few girls giggled. Ms. Honey laughed. "Oh no," she said. "It is not real. It is just a model that will help you know the bones." Emily glanced at her best friend, Rachel. She was in a fit of giggles.

"Would you like to name him?" Ms. Honey asked. "Yeeess!" The class shouted. "Alright!" said Ms. Honey. Emily, Billy, Rachel and few other kids' hands went up. Ms. Honey called on Rachel. "Mr. Skeleton!" she cried. Ms. Honey wrote it on the board. "Billy?" asked Ms. Honey. "Skully!" shouted Billy. Ms. Honey wrote that on the board too. "Emily?" She asked. "Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly!" She wrote that on the board along with the others. Then she called on the other kids and wrote their suggestions on the board with the rest. When she was done, she passed them each a piece of paper. As they always did, they wrote their name on a corner of the paper and waited for further instructions. "Now, you can write the name you want. Choose from the board." They wrote the names down and flipped it upside down. Emily wrote her own suggestion on her piece of paper. When everyone was done, Ms. Honey asked them who chose Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly. Most of them raised their hands. So, Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly was his name.

Then they continued with science class. Ms. Honey explained to them about the bones. Then they counted the arm bones of Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly. Ms. Honey's desk was blocking some of his hand so she held his hand up. At that moment, his arm fell! The class burst out laughing! Ms. Honey laughed too. "See, it is dangerous handling him." Ms. Honey said. "I am scared doing it myself." She tried to fix it, but she couldn't, so she just put the arm on her desk and continued the lesson. They had a lot of fun with Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly. Emily felt that Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly, though a bit spooky, was so much fun. Sure enough, by the end of the week, everyone loved Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly.

On the weekend, Emily woke up, and strangely, found herself in the school. She was in the basketball court on the playground. Basketball was Emily's favorite sport. Beside the basketball court there was a pool. That was strange! There was no pool near the basket ball court in HER school, but this (except the pool) looked EXACTLY like her school. Emily shrugged and looked around. There was a basketball near the hoop. She got it and decided to practice a few shots. She took aim and SHOOT! It went through! She caught it and tried again. This time, it did not go through. She tried to catch it, but she couldn't! It bounced off … in to the pool! "Oh no!" she whispered. Emily couldn't get it, as the ball went almost in the middle of the pool and she was not good at swimming.

She was in trouble, she knew it. There was nobody around to help her out. Suddenly, Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly came out from the school building, towards Emily! Emily was shocked. She just gaped at him. Now he was running! He suddenly dived into the pool and when he got out, he had the basketball in his hand. He came out of the pool. He walked to Emily and gave the ball to her. Emily was shocked and almost froze. Somehow she managed to say "Thank you, Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly". Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly smiled and spread his arms to give her a hug. Emily gave him a big hug.

"Emily! Wake up, breakfast's ready!" It was her mother's voice. Emily woke up and found out she was hugging a pillow. She realized she had not really woken up in the school after all, it was just a dream! When she went to school the next day, she told her friends about the dream. They said it was just a meaningless dream, but Emily knew that it meant she liked Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly very, very much.
