My perfect day

I woke up. I could tell it was going to be a nice day. The weather seemed to agree. It was a nice day, sunny and warm. I got up, got dressed and went down. I quickly ate my breakfast and went out in the garden. I watched the butterflies for a while, and then watered the plants. "We will go to the beach!" my father called. "Come on! Get ready!" I froze. Going to the beach?!!! "Hooray!" I cried. I raced up, got ready and ran back down. I got in the car. We drove and drove. Finally, we reached the sandy beach.

Then I sniffed. I'd noticed that smell before, but I did not recognize it until now. It was the smell of pizza! "You wanted to have a picnic!" I exclaimed. "Yes!" my dad said. Then we got out and ate pizza. It was delicious! After that, we played games. Then, we had a sand castle contest. I won! My sandcastle was biggest and nicest. Then we had a water fight. This time, my dad won. I had fun though. After that, we just relaxed a bit and swam in the water. Then we watched the sunset. After, we went home. I slept peacefully. What a nice day!

School on FIRE!

Hi, yesterday something really unexpected happened at school. We were in library class. Then …Rrrrrinnnnggg! The fire alarm! It rang all through the school! It was so loud. We dropped what we were doing and rushed to line up. Immediately, our library teacher led us out of the school building and onto the playground. I wasn't so worried. I thought this was just a drill. We've had drills before. We stood there in a line, wondering. It was a long time, may be about an hour. Ok, now I started to get worried. We've had drills, but not for so long. Finally our principal came out. At that moment, I noticed smoke coming out of the school. Uh-oh! Our principal told us that the school was on fire and we were gonna have to go to our buses which will take us back home. We did not even get our back-packs! We went straight home. The next day, we got news that the firefighters had come and saved the school! I was so glad that the school was saved and nobody was hurt.

Story of Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly

Emily goes to Da-Vinci elementary school. She is in fourth grade. Her teacher's name is Ms. Honey. One day, Emily walked in the class. She saw the schedule on the board. After snack, they had science! Science was Emily's favorite subject. When it was snack time, Emily couldn’t wait for it to be over. When it was over, everyone was excited. Science was always fun.

"Ok class, its science time!" Ms. Honey called. Ms. Honey explained that this week, they were going to study about the bones in the human body. "To help you, I have something here", Ms. Honey said while she went to the supply room. When she came out, she carried an old, very wobbly skeleton and placed it behind her desk.

Emily was shocked (and a bit scared) at the wobbliness of the skeleton. After taking a close look at it, she realized it was not real. It had metal wires to help it stand. Its joints were made of metal too, like door hinges.

Ms. Honey then explained that she could not let them handle it. "It is about 30 years old or so. It is starting to fall apart. If you try to handle it or something, it might break." Emily realized that it was true. The lower jaw, a hand, a foot and a couple of other bones were indeed missing. It still looked quite spooky.

Billy, a boy sitting at the far end, raised his hand. "Yes, Billy, do you have a question?" Ms. Honey asked. "Is it real?" asked Billy. A few girls giggled. Ms. Honey laughed. "Oh no," she said. "It is not real. It is just a model that will help you know the bones." Emily glanced at her best friend, Rachel. She was in a fit of giggles.

"Would you like to name him?" Ms. Honey asked. "Yeeess!" The class shouted. "Alright!" said Ms. Honey. Emily, Billy, Rachel and few other kids' hands went up. Ms. Honey called on Rachel. "Mr. Skeleton!" she cried. Ms. Honey wrote it on the board. "Billy?" asked Ms. Honey. "Skully!" shouted Billy. Ms. Honey wrote that on the board too. "Emily?" She asked. "Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly!" She wrote that on the board along with the others. Then she called on the other kids and wrote their suggestions on the board with the rest. When she was done, she passed them each a piece of paper. As they always did, they wrote their name on a corner of the paper and waited for further instructions. "Now, you can write the name you want. Choose from the board." They wrote the names down and flipped it upside down. Emily wrote her own suggestion on her piece of paper. When everyone was done, Ms. Honey asked them who chose Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly. Most of them raised their hands. So, Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly was his name.

Then they continued with science class. Ms. Honey explained to them about the bones. Then they counted the arm bones of Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly. Ms. Honey's desk was blocking some of his hand so she held his hand up. At that moment, his arm fell! The class burst out laughing! Ms. Honey laughed too. "See, it is dangerous handling him." Ms. Honey said. "I am scared doing it myself." She tried to fix it, but she couldn't, so she just put the arm on her desk and continued the lesson. They had a lot of fun with Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly. Emily felt that Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly, though a bit spooky, was so much fun. Sure enough, by the end of the week, everyone loved Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly.

On the weekend, Emily woke up, and strangely, found herself in the school. She was in the basketball court on the playground. Basketball was Emily's favorite sport. Beside the basketball court there was a pool. That was strange! There was no pool near the basket ball court in HER school, but this (except the pool) looked EXACTLY like her school. Emily shrugged and looked around. There was a basketball near the hoop. She got it and decided to practice a few shots. She took aim and SHOOT! It went through! She caught it and tried again. This time, it did not go through. She tried to catch it, but she couldn't! It bounced off … in to the pool! "Oh no!" she whispered. Emily couldn't get it, as the ball went almost in the middle of the pool and she was not good at swimming.

She was in trouble, she knew it. There was nobody around to help her out. Suddenly, Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly came out from the school building, towards Emily! Emily was shocked. She just gaped at him. Now he was running! He suddenly dived into the pool and when he got out, he had the basketball in his hand. He came out of the pool. He walked to Emily and gave the ball to her. Emily was shocked and almost froze. Somehow she managed to say "Thank you, Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly". Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly smiled and spread his arms to give her a hug. Emily gave him a big hug.

"Emily! Wake up, breakfast's ready!" It was her mother's voice. Emily woke up and found out she was hugging a pillow. She realized she had not really woken up in the school after all, it was just a dream! When she went to school the next day, she told her friends about the dream. They said it was just a meaningless dream, but Emily knew that it meant she liked Mr. Wobbly-Gobbly very, very much.

Three Brothers

Once, there were three little children. They used to live with their mother in the countryside. One day, their mom told them to go out and pick some blueberries. She gave each of them a basket and, while they were going, she told them to pick as many as they wanted.

The eldest child picked only little blueberries and spent the rest of the time playing. The second eldest child picked more blueberries than his brother, but ate most of it.

The youngest child worked slowly and steadily and chose only the good berries. He also did not eat any and filled his basket full. He also washed the berries by the stream. He washed each one of them carefully and then he went home. His brothers had already returned.

His mother was waiting for him and when she saw the blueberries, she told him that he was a good boy and she made blueberry jam and blueberry pie for him. His brothers did not get any, so they were sad, but the boy, being of a kind heart shared everything with them. The other two brothers realized their mistake and learned that they should always accomplish the task nicely and carefully.

Book Review: THE GIVER by Lois Lowry

Jonas is almost twelve. The elders are watching him and other elevens very closely and taking notes. Jonas knows why. In December, two days ceremonies are held. On the second day, the ceremony of Twelve begins. Jonas sits and waits. The chief elder announces the adult assignments. Jonas, when it is his turn, is skipped! Everyone is shocked. Jonas gets his assignment at the end. He is selected to be the RECEIVER. It is the most honored job. Jonas, after a year's training runs away because he wants to change his community. Jonas wants to go and live in ELSEWHERE. Will he find ELSEWHERE? Will he survive?

This is a story of a boy named Jonas. Jonas lives in a seemingly perfect world, where there is no war or fear or pain. There everyone lives a very, very predictable life. I think the most ultimate thing in this book, the thing that makes it so unique is its setting. To know all about the setting and environment, you'll have to read the book. Most of the setting is revealed later. Oh, and one more thing, people cannot see colors. I think this book is really mysterious. Ms. Lois Lowry created a really suspenseful kind of suspense here. It keeps you really involved. Also, Ms. Lowry left a lot of questions unanswered. The ending is really wonderful, and it was a cliffhanger. The ending left me thinking and wondering for a long time. I was astounded. Ms. Lowry has woven words, sentences, paragraphs and chapters to create an astounding and wonderful story.

In this book Lois Lowry depicted a very strange world. There are no wrong choices, because there are no choices at all! To make everyone feel involved, and to not make anyone feel excluded or embarrassed, you are not allowed to talk about each other's differences. You can always talk about what is same. Think such a life would be perfect, right? Wrong! Also, in this world, there are a lot of common phases, like the standard apology phase. This makes it boring for you to communicate. It is also really routinely. The choices as I said are really limited. One is also not allowed to choose one's spouse. Each couple is allowed to apply for one boy and one girl only. There are women who are "birthmothers". The family unit is ideal with one adult male, one adult female and a young male and a young female. The Old, some newchildren and people who break the rules three times are RELEASED. You will be shocked to know the meaning of release.

To help the community run smoothly, everyone is assigned a role in the community. These are like jobs, but you cannot choose them. I think that is ridiculous. You start your volunteer hours when you are Eight. There is a special committee which observes you and decides the assignments at the "Ceremony of Twelve".

The story starts like any other, though it is surprising. After about chapter seven, the story really starts. I felt shocked when bit by bit, the settings were revealed. I also felt curious when some of the answers, like, how the community became to be like it is? How did they banish colors? Were not answered. I really wish I knew the answers to those things. There are also many more unanswered things (read the book if you wish to know).

You might want to know why it's called THE GIVER. When Jonas becomes twelve, he, like many others, is assigned a job. What Jonas is assigned is not a normal job. It is the most honored job of all. It is also the most important job. Jonas is assigned to be the next RECEIVER. The previous receiver now becomes THE GIVER. Jonas is now the receiver in training. Only the giver holds all the memories of the past; the memories of hills, snow, sunshine, rain, war, famine and everything else. This arrangement is made so that the community members do not have to carry the painful burden of the memories of the past.

When Jonas starts training, stronger emotions surge through you. You feel terror, joy, sadness, happiness and many other emotions. About here, I felt something else, too. I felt that without sorrows you cannot feel pleasure, without pain you cannot be healed. I felt that our world, with its sorrows and happiness, is the best! There cannot be a better world.

Towards the end of the book, the emotions are stronger. Sadness is the main one. The mysterious cliffhanger ending left me really curious and with millions of questions.

Why I like Enid Blytons' Books.

I like Enid Blytons' stories because they are very interesting. They keep the reader hooked at what happens next. Sometimes it gives me a surprise or a fright. Sometimes there is a silly, happy or dreadful moment in the story. The strange characters in the story are pixies, goblins, imps, brownies and fairies. There are 15 stories and 178 pages in 1 book. There are 72 books in popular reward series. These are my most favorite books.
